Superstitious Beliefs in Craps
Posted on March 5th, 2007 at 10:09 am by shnavely and

This article enumerates the different craps superstitions. It is meant for those just beginning to play craps.

I seriously considered placing a question mark after the title. I mean I find it hard to believe that grown men and women actually believe that if they do or don’t do something they’ll get lucky and win it big. Apparently, it’s just the skeptic in me.

For those of you who aren’t so superstitious, read on so you’ll know what to do so as not to offend our fellow craps players with their superstitions.

The first craps superstition says that the number seven will be rolled if the dice departs the table. To remedy the problem craps players result to rolling the same dice again. They usually yell “same dice” before the next roll.

If you’re the craps shooter and this happens to you, I suggest you do the same thing so you won’t be booed at.

If the dice accidentally hits the craps dealer’s or craps player’s hands then the next roll will be seven. This is the reason why craps players usually yell out “watch your hands” before every roll. Even the craps personnel are very careful where they place their hands so as not to be accused of jinxing the craps dice roll.

It is a craps superstition that craps players must not put money on the craps table while a good roll is in progress. This is because it is believed that if the craps dice hit the money, then the following roll will be seven.

I find it unusual that craps players would neither speak nor touch the craps shooter that is having a good roll. This is because craps players believe that if they do they would jinx the roll and result in a seven being rolled up.

I suggest you try to follow such a craps superstition to avoid many angry stares and even unpleasant comments from other craps players.

It is both craps superstition and craps etiquette not to mention the number seven while a roll is on going. This is because craps players believe that the dice will hear you and a seven will be rolled.

Craps players would rather refer to the number seven as it or the devil than say its name aloud.

Who would believe that there is sexism even in the game of craps. Generally, craps players would prefer a female first time craps shooter than a male virgin craps shooters.

Craps players believe that female craps shooter will have a good roll in their first roll. They call this craps superstition as the Virgin Principle.

Consequently, a male virgin shooter is believed to roll a bad roll on their first try. Craps players will prefer an experienced male craps shooter than a virgin male shooter.
